I've usually made it to every Pride Event since I've moved into the DC Area. Both Black Pride and Capital Pride. Over the years, it's sort of become like my family reunion season. I bump into people I haven't seen since my days as a club kid and a bouncer.
I didn't make it to DC's Black Pride last year. Part of the reason was because the main hangout place near the Navy Yard had long been razed to make way for the new baseball stadium. As of matter, I didn't make the other DC Pride celebration either, because I got my scheduling wrong and thought it was the week after the week when it actually went down. Oh well!
So I have my calender marked for both events this years. Black Pride is hard to forget because its always scheduled on Memorial Day weekend. That it starts in late May sort flies in the face of the notion of Colored People's time, considering pride season official kicks off in June. I just learned a bit of information that got me really eager to attend the Black Pride. Patti LaBelle is performing!
