Going into Heavy Rotation: Jamie Lidell's Jim
If someone would have told me that Madonna's Hard Candy wouldn't be my favorite album released last week, I would called them a liar and told them that the truth wasn't in them. But truth is . . . it isn't. I like Hard Candy. It's good and frothy album that manages to do it's job and get me off my ass (only to have my poor hips and feet regret it for the rest of the day). But I found another album that makes me want to dance("Little Bit of Feelgood"), fall in love again ("Wait for Me"), make love ("Green Light") and even weep ("All I Wanna Do") and that album is Jamie Lidell's Jim. If either Van Morrison or Sam Cooke had lady bits and they decided to produce a child; and if that child decided to put out an album (and pinch a bit from Otis and Stevie's style to boot), I imagine that it would sort of sound like this Jim. I discovered Jamie Lidell yesterday while writing and listening Prince Channel on my Rhapsody player. If I paid a attention to Target commercials (honestly, that song was a little bit annoying to me) or Grey's Anatomy (honestly, that show is a whole lot annoying to me.), I would have discovered him two albums ago. But on the strength of the only album I have had the pleasure of hearing all the through (not to mention a measly $15 price tag), I've already snatched up a ticket for his June show at the 9:30 Club.
